One thing that Montana doesn't lack is beauty.

Legendary Montana road open for the season

Each year, hundreds of thousands of folks travel the Bearthooth Highway. This amazing stretch of road goes through Montana and Wyoming and is considered by many to have the most beautiful views in the world.

The highway, which is just under 70 miles, goes from Red Lodge to the northwest entrance of Yellowstone National Park and first opened back in 1936.

Driving the Beartooth is a bucket-list item for many. Whether the dream is to do it in a vehicle or on a motorcycle, folks travel from all over the world to take the 70-mile journey. If you are planning on making the drive, here are some things you need to know:

  • The highway is typically open between 4 and 5 months a year (although June through August are considered the best months)
  • The Beartooth Pass is almost 11 thousand feet above sea level.
  • The best time of day to travel the highway is between 10 am and 5 pm.
  • There are limited resources (bathrooms) along the route, so plan accordingly. 

It should be noticed that the area sees several feet of snowfall each year, and the weather can be unpredictable, so always have a backup plan.
