
Weekend Box Office: ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ Is Top Banana
Two new films — ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ and ‘The Change-Up’ — premiered in the top five in this weekend’s best box-office earners, coming in at number one and number four, respectively.
Last weekend’s top films, ‘The Smurfs’ and ‘Cowboys & Aliens,’ moved to the second and third-place slots.

‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’– $54 million (3,648 screens), new release
‘The Smurfs’ – $21 million (3,395 screens), $76.2 million total
‘Cowboys & Aliens’ – $15.7 million (3,754 screens), $67.3 million total
‘The Change-Up’ – $13.5 million (2,913 screens), new release
‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ – $13 million (3,620 screens), $143.1 million total
