This Small Montana Town Is Home To The Best Pizza In The State.

I don't know who invented pizza, but whomever it was, I hope they're in heaven. In what might be the greatest culinary creation in the history of food, even bad pizza is good.

I don't need all of the fancy fixin's. I'm a one or two-topping guy who likes extra cheese. I'm a huge fan of Cosmic Pizza in Bozeman and you can't talk about pizza joints in Montana without mentioning places like Eugene's in Glasgow, Silver Bow in Butte, Pie Guys in Billings, and countless other pizza parlors across Big Sky Country.

Where can you find the best pizza in Montana?

While that's a debatable topic, one popular website says if you're looking for the "Best Hole In The Wall Pizza" in Montana, you'll need to plan your trip accordingly.

Cheapism came out with a list of some of the best pizza places in the country and one Montana joint made the list, but they only open for part of the year. The winner? Bob's Place Pizza in Virginia City.

Bob's is located on historic Main Street and is only open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. While the pizza joint has been around since the mid-90s, the building has been around since 1864.

For those curious about the history of the place, Bob Gohn opened up a General Store and Bar in the building back in the 1920s. Bob had been blinded in a mining accident and needed something to do that would bring in an income. As the story goes, Bob could tell his customers and friends by the sounds of their footsteps and even though he couldn't see, he was the best bartender in town.

Nowadays, folks from all over Montana and the world head to Virginia City to take in all the history and fun this charming little town has to offer, and that includes Bob's Place Pizza.

As mentioned, Bob's is only open a few months a year, so if you want to have a taste of what has been called the very best pizza in the state, you'll need to make sure you're in Virginia City between late May and early September.
