Montana’s “Most Popular” Gas Station Isn’t Even In Montana.

Growing up, I used to go to Jim's Fina.

Jim was a friend of the family and he owned and operated the little gas station just a couple of blocks from my parent's house. For years, Jim's claim to fame was being the winner of the "friendliest service in town, " which was true. It was the type of place that offered full service and while filling up your tank, they would check the oil and tire pressure.

It was also a social hub. Each morning, men would gather (including my father) and stand around the little retail area drinking coffee and talking about whatever was happening around town.

Jim's is long gone, and while it wasn't much of a space, gas stations have grown into huge properties where you can buy almost anything you need, including...well, gas.

The folks over at FreeBets came out with data that contained the most popular gas station in each state.  Now, there were some criteria. In order to be considered it has to be a chain AND has to include a convenience store.

So, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking the same thing I was thinking. The answer is Town Pump. Except, according to FreeBets, it's not.

Which gas station is Montana's most popular?

According to the website, the most popular gas station in Montana isn't even located in Montana according to their website. Yes, you read that right.  According to the folks at FreeBets, the most popular gas station in Montana is Cumberland Farms.

Once again, I entered Montana into their "Find A Location" map, and nothing. Zelch. Zero. Nada.

So how did a gas station that's not in Montana end up being Montana's favorite gas station? That's a great question.  It seems that the company that owns Cumberland Farms is located in the Northeastern United States.

Of course, it doesn't take someone on the honor roll to know that Montana is located in the Northwestern part of the country.

It seems that what we have here is a real case of FAKE NEWS. So which gas station is the most popular in the state? We were all right, it's Town Pump.
