Thursday’s Projected High Temperature Could Break Bozeman Record
A heatwave has been sweeping across most of the western U.S. this week, and we are definitely feeling it here in Montana. Temperatures above 90 degrees aren't typical for the beginning of June.
According to the National Weather Service in Great Falls, the projected high for Bozeman is 91 degrees. If it does get that hot, it will break a record set over 20 years ago.
We spoke with Ray Greely, a National Weather Service Meteorologist. He told us that the record high temperature in Bozeman for June 3 was set in 1988. On that day, it got up to 89 degrees.

Even if today's high temperature doesn't break a Bozeman record, it's going to be a scorcher. It's important to stay hydrated, especially if you're working or recreating outdoors. Sunscreen is also your friend on days like today. If you're feeling generous and driving along Interstate 90 between Bozeman and Manhattan, take a case of water out to the construction workers. I'm sure they would greatly appreciate it.
Thankfully, temperatures are expected to cool down slightly as we head into the weekend and next week. A high of 90 degrees is projected for Friday, but scattered thunderstorms will cool things down a bit later in the day. Temperatures next week are expected to be in the low to mid 80's.
It might be a good time to make sure your rafts and tubes are ready to go. A float down the Madison River sounds pretty good right now.
Make sure your pets have plenty of water as well, and please don't leave them in your vehicle with the windows up. If it's 90 degrees outside, temperatures can reach 120 degrees in your car in just 20 minutes.
