Many Montanans have mixed feelings when it comes to "chain restaurants".

I mean, let's be honest, here in Big Sky Country, we're not as keen on "Big Box Stores" and other "corporate-type" establishments. However, there are several chains that you can find across the Treasure State, and one of those has made a pretty prestigious list that even most Montanans will find impressive.

Beef is a big deal here in Montana. We've all the facts that there are more cows than people across the state, but when it comes to steak, you would be hard pressed to find a better selection of genuine steak houses than what we have to offer here.

So, when one of those "chain restaurants" makes the list of one of the best places in the country to get a steak, you can imagine that one or two Montana eyebrows will be raised. However, that's exactly the case, and before we reveal which chain made the cut, let's look at some of the best local steakhouses found throughout Montana.

Where can Montanans find a great steak at a chain restaurant?

I remember when it was announced that they were coming to Bozeman, many locals threw a fit and said that the restaurant would never survive. The funny thing, not only was that not true, but it turns out it's one of the busiest restaurants in town.

Texas Roadhouse was voted one of the best chain restaurants to get a great steak and happens to be the only restaurant on the list that has locations here in Montana according to the food website The Takeout.

Texas Roadhouse has locations in Billings, Bozeman, and Missoula and was built with the idea of being a place to get a great meal and a great price. The founder of the chain wanted to make a place where the average person could take out their family once or twice a week and not break the bank.

I'm a fan of Texas Roadhouse and have never had a bad meal at any of their locations that I've visited. Don't get me wrong, I love a good local steakhouse and prefer to go the local route, but if you're looking for something with a wide variety of menu items, Texas Roadhouse certainly checks all the boxes.
