TikTok Sparked a Pistachio Shortage—Yes, Even in Montana
It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! Nope… It’s Another Food Shortage.
Don’t worry, it’s not eggs again, but it is kinda egg-shaped. Pistachios are in a international shortage do to a viral tik-tok video and it's even effecting Montana's supply. Man... we live in a weird world these days.
It all started with a single TikTok video from creator @mariavehera257 in late 2023. In the short video, she dramatically cracks open a thick chocolate bar oozing green pistachio cream and loaded with crunchy kataifi (a shredded pastry). Honestly? It looked amazing and I definitely want to try it. The internet agreed—over 124 million views later, the candy bar became known as the “Dubai Chocolate.”
@mariavehera257 @fixdessertchocolatier WOW, JUST WOW!!! Can’t explain how good these are! When a chocolate, a dessert and a piece of art meet this is what you get! 🍫 "Can't Get Knafeh of it," "Mind Your Own Busicoff," and "Crazy Over Caramel." Order on Instagram Chatfood or Deliveroo and let me know what’s your FIX? Instagram : fixdessertchocolatier #asmr #foodsounds #dubai #dubaidessert ♬ оригинальный звук - mariavehera257
Originally made by Emirati chocolatier Fix Dessert Chocolatier, the viral bar isn’t even sold in the U.S, just in the UAE. But that didn’t stop the trend. Copycat versions popped up fast, with people lining up around the block to get a taste. Demand spiked, production ramped up, and boom...global pistachio shortage.
Even here in Montana, the effects are real. We reached out to Olivelle in Bozeman, a specialty store that stocked the trend-inspired bars. Their response? “We’ve sold out three times.” That’s right, TikTok pistachio craze even made it to Big Sky Country.
Wild, right? In a state where TikTok is technically banned, the app still manages to influence what we snack on.

So what do you think? Have you tried the viral pistachio bar? Is it worth the hype? Let us know HERE.
