Pier 1 Imports Plans to Close Nearly Half Their Stores
Pier 1 Imports announced in a release on Monday, January 6th they will be closing up to 450 of their store locations. In addition to closing about half of their stores, the company also plans to cut corporate staff and distribution centers.
As of Tuesday, there has not been any further statements about which locations will be closed. The Bozeman location has not announced they will be effected by the large closures. Pier 1 Imports announced earlier this year their location in Kalispell is set to close February 26th and their Missoula location will be closing soon.
The home decor company was originally started in California in 1962, but has recently struggled to compete online and attract consumers to their locations. Robert Riesbeck, CEO and CFO, stated
Although decisions that impact our associates are never easy, reducing the number of our brick-and-mortar locations is a necessary business decision. We thank our team of hard-working associates for their commitment to Pier 1 and to serving our customers.
