Being born and raised in Missouri, I never had to worry about bears.

When I moved to Montana, I knew there was a risk of bears. Someone told me to go buy a can of bear spray for when I go hiking. I thought they were pulling a fast one on me. Bear spray? I thought there was no possible way this was real. I expected it to be a gag gift, like a can that says "Bear Spray," but is really like a can of silly string.

I was dead wrong.

Bear spray is actually a very effective tool to have on you while hiking in the mountains. This Saturday at Kidabaloo, you will have the chance to use a charging bear simulator. Here is a video of how it works:
