Montana Town Nicknames You Probably Shouldn’t Say Out Loud
Have you ever had a nickname? I’m guessing at some point in life someone tossed a funny or ridiculous name your way. For me it was “dead eye,” thanks to being on a rifle team starting at fourteen. Nicknames always seem to come with a story, and Montana is no different. Across the state, towns have picked up their own unofficial titles that locals love to throw around.
I recently came across a hilarious video from a well known Montana content creator, @jonas.rydell.n , who highlighted some of the most recognizable town nicknames. He also asked viewers to share their own, and the comments did not disappoint. A few of the popular ones included Helena being called Hell Town, Bozeman earning the name BozeAngeles, and Billings going by Killings. Whitefish has long been known as Stumptown, and Kalispell sometimes gets shortened to K Town.
Of course, some nicknames get a little rowdy. Butte carries the name Butt... the hole of the west, and people from the canyon often get labeled canyon critters. Anaconda becomes Anna Compton, and Martin City gets pronounced Martian City. Even Great Falls has its own twist with The Little Town of Methlyhem. Missoula fans already know the long-standing name Zootown, which has been popular for years.

These are only a handful of the names people mentioned, and trust me, a lot of them were not exactly PG rated. If your Montana town has its own nickname, or if your friends came up with one that makes you laugh, share it with us. We want to hear what you call your corner of the state HERE.
