In case you haven't watched the news, we are a few days away from the start of World War III.

Now, listen, I'm not quite ready to take all my food storage, guns, and ammo and head for a Montana bunker for the next year, but it does raise an interesting question or two. Just how prepared are Montanans when it comes to a disaster?

I feel like most Montanans are ahead of the game, especially if you're a local or one of those folks who moved here from other states with similar mindsets. I'm talking about the types of places where neighbors help neighbors, and when a storm blows through, there's ole (insert name) with a chainsaw and a 4-wheeler ready to help.

Almost 30 thousand United States adults were recently asked the following question by YouGov:

WOULD YOU EVER CONSIDER HOMESTEADING–OR A SELF-SUFFICIENT LIFESTYLE THAT INVOLVES GROWING YOUR OWN FOOD?

The percentage of the answers might surprise you.

I grew up in a small town and spent a lot of time on my Aunt and Uncle's farm. My Grandparents had a massive garden, and my parents tried their hand at growing some vegetables from time to time. My wife, on the other hand, comes from a big city and her background is a little more mall than mud.

Now, don't get me wrong, we have lots of emergency food buckets and multiple ways to defend ourselves, but we still have some work to do. Luckily, we've made friends with folks who have all of the skills, and we're hoping they take pity on us if anything happens.

Oh, in case you are wondering what the breakdown looked like from the question, the results are below:

  • 19% Definitely
  • 29% Probably
  • 23% Probably Not
  • 21% Definitely Not
  • 8% Not Sure

What does that mean? Well, if you do the math, that means darn near half of the people aren't going to be prepared and will be coming after you and your stash.
