Montana Leads the Nation in Pokémon Fandom?
Montana is apparently obsessed with Pokémon. What? That was not on my bingo card for Big Sky Country.
According to new research from ACE.com, Pokémon fans are alive and well here, and we are leading the nation. The study looked at Google search trends from 2022 through 2025, comparing how often different Pokémon were searched in each state versus their share of searches nationwide. To keep things accurate, they only counted characters with at least 1,000 searches.

Montana ranked number one. On average, there are 117,650 Pokémon related searches each month in the state. That breaks down to 1,024 searches per 10,000 residents. That is a lot of Poké enthusiasm.
The character that stands out most here is Okidogi. Searches for that Pokémon are more than 20 times higher than the national average when compared to overall Pokémon interest. Not exactly what I expected from a state better known for elk and fly fishing.

For comparison, Washington came in second, followed by Hawaii, Oregon, and California. Nationwide, Pikachu remains the most searched and most recognizable character, which probably surprises no one.

The full top ten list includes Montana, Washington, Hawaii, Oregon, California, Utah, Nevada, Massachusetts, New York, and Virginia. Of all the trends I would have guessed for Montana, Pokémon dominating search engines was not one of them. Yet here we are.
