If you know anything about longtime Montanans or folks who choose to call this place home, you know one thing for sure. People love their hot springs. They are a cherished pastime around here and also a touchy subject. There is the never ending debate about whether hot spring locations should be shared or guarded like a family secret. Thanks to social media and satellite maps, those once hidden soaking spots are getting harder to protect every year.
We are all familiar with developed hot springs you can pay to visit. But every now and then, something far more rare pops up. A fully private natural hot spring property. That is exactly what is about to happen in south-western Montana.
Medicine Hot Springs in Conner is heading to auction this spring and it is not exactly a starter home. The 119 acre property sits at the southern end of the Bitterroot Valley and is surrounded on three sides by U.S. Forest Service land. The listing includes a massive natural hot springs pool, a hot tub, a historic bathhouse, 12 cabins, a main residence, and a large communal lodge built for gatherings.
The springs themselves flow naturally between 94 and 114 degrees and are fed by geothermal water rights that date back to 1908. It is also close to Lost Trail Ski Area and not far from where Yellowstone was filmed near Darby.

It's current listing is at a whopping $7,950,000, but the property will be auctioned on March 10, with no reserve. The listing also said they will have open houses every Saturday and Sunday starting February 21. If you have a few million dollars sitting around, this might be the ultimate Montana dream.
