Know This Guy? Montana FWP Offers Reward After Bold Daylight Theft
We all know how the honor system works, right? It’s the backbone of self-pay stations at campgrounds and fishing access sites across Montana. You drop your cash in the box, do what you're supposed to do, and go enjoy the river/ camp ground—simple as that. Sure, you'll get written up if you skip out on paying, but these little metal boxes aren’t exactly Fort Knox. Still, one guy in Billings must’ve thought he hit the jackpot... because he straight-up robbed one like it was a mini bank.
FWP Is on the Hunt for a Self-Pay Station Bandit
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks game wardens are looking for more info on the man caught on camera helping himself to the self-pay station at Voyager's Rest Fishing Access Site, just outside of Ballantine.
With what looks like a crowbar and a bad attitude, he tried cracking it open on May 29—but struck out. Most people would take that as a sign to quit, but not this guy. Nope, he came back the next morning, and this time, he got what he came for.
Turns out, this isn’t the only incident. There’s been a string of these low-budget heists at self-pay stations around the state. But thanks to some perfectly placed security footage, this daylight bandit got caught in action.
FWP says the man might be driving a dark-colored Ford F-150, and he’s got some pretty noticeable tattoos on his left arm—so maybe not the best career choice if you’re trying to go unnoticed.

If you recognize him or have any info, you could earn yourself a cash reward of up to $1,000. Visit tipmont.mt.gov or give Billings area game warden Jake Barzen a call at 406-409-1987. Let’s help bring this self-pay swindler to justice.
