Montana Artists: Your Art Could Be Driving All Over The State
If you’re a Montana artist, here’s your shot to have your work rolling down highways all over the state, help protect wildlife, and snag some cash while you’re at it.
Montana Big Game and Wildlife Highway Crossings License Plate Artwork Contest
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) and a group of conservation partners are putting on the Montana Big Game and Wildlife Highway Crossings License Plate Artwork Contest, and they’re calling on creative folks to help tell an important story.
Montanas big game, like elk, mule deer, moose, and pronghorn don’t exactly check a GPS before heading out. They follow seasonal migration routes to find food, water, and shelter. Trouble is, highways cut right through some of those routes, creating dangerous situations for both wildlife and drivers. That’s where this contest comes in.
The new specialty license plate will raise awareness and money for projects that help animals cross highways safely, like wildlife overpasses and underpasses. FWP wants original artwork that captures wildlife on the move, shows a crossing structure, and brings Montana’s landscapes to life.
The prize? A cool $1,000, a commemorative plate, and the glory of knowing your art is traveling the open road on bumpers all over Big Sky Country. Submissions are open Aug. 15 to Oct. 17 and the entry link will be posted when the contest kicks off.

So if you’ve got an eye for Montana’s wild side and the skills to back it up, this is your moment. Fire up that sketchpad and get ready to leave your mark on Montana’s roads. Literally!
