Montana’s Job Scene: What Do These Numbers Mean?
It's a political year so we're being bombarded by "facts" and "figures" regarding the economy, jobs, cost of living, and everything else that politicians like to talk about when they're not running down their opponents.
Now, let me say, this isn't an article about politics. It's an article about Montana and according to one source, it could be considered good news and local and state leaders might have to toot their own horn.
We've heard a lot about jobs over the last few years. It seems that the pandemic did a number on all of the states, but here in Montana, things are a little different compared to the other 49 states.

Lots of folks moved to Montana during the pandemic which resulted in several other problems, (but we won't get into that). We're left to assume that most of the people who moved here could:
- Work from home.
- Didn't need a job.
I bring all of this up because according to new data when it comes to those searching for work, that doesn't seem to be an issue here in Big Sky Country. Only one state out of the 50 has a lower percentage than Montana when it comes to those searching for employment.
Where does Montana rank when it comes to job searches?
According to Google, Montana's job index search rank is 49th with an index score of 2.38. That's quite the drop when you consider the number one ranked state Georgia has an index score of 92.12.
So does that mean that Montanans are happy and content where they're at? Or is the fact that we're simply not looking to improve our situation? Either way, with such a low score, you have to wonder what's going on.
There was a time when you couldn't help but notice all of the "Help Wanted" signs and it certainly seems like many of those have gone away, so are we to assume that all is well in The Treasure State?
