Downtown Bozeman is getting a new hotel, but not everyone is rolling out the welcome mat. City officials have given the green light to the project, despite growing concerns from locals that the development will make Bozeman’s already tight parking situation even worse.

With limited on-street spaces and busy tourist seasons packing downtown, many residents worry that the influx of guests, employees, and delivery traffic could turn the search for a parking spot into a frustrating game of musical chairs.

According to the Bozeman Real Estate Group, the Bozeman City Commission voted to approve the project on August 5, despite being initially denied by the city in May.

The project site is on East Mendenhall Street near Rouse Avenue, behind Open Range, in Bozeman’s B-3 Downtown Business District. The property is adjacent to Bozeman Creek, requiring a 35-foot setback on both sides under city regulations.

Plans for the project include a 6-story boutique hotel with a ground-level lobby, a restaurant, and an event stage.

Brendan O'Connor, a candidate for Mayor in Bozeman, shared the following video on TikTok, explaining how the hotel will make parking in the downtown area even more of a nightmare.

The approved parking plan states that the new hotel will share a parking garage that will be shared with the Bozeman Hotel. For locals, finding a place to park downtown is already a struggle, and this is only going to make it worse.

How do you feel about the new hotel? Does Bozeman need it? Will it improve the quality of life for people who live here? I think we all know the answer.
