One of Montana's Most Interesting Attractions Officially Open

Want to hit the road and explore the great state of Montana this spring? If so, there's one place that needs to be added to your list of destinations. Great news! It's officially open for the 2024 season.

Montana is full of interesting places to visit. Unfortunately, you can't get to many of them during the winter months due to the amount of snow the state receives. Fortunately, spring has arrived, the snow is melting, and access to many of our favorite places is slowly opening up.

Popular Montana Attraction Opens For 2024 Season

If you find yourself in eastern Montana anytime soon, Makoshika State Park near Glendive is a a must-visit destination. It is the largest state park in Montana, and is known as the state's badlands. The park is perfect for scenic drives, and there's also an abundance of options for hiking and camping.

Each year, special events are planned within the park, including Montana Shakespeare in the Park, a variety of youth programs during the summer, and the famous Buzzard Day festival.

Explore the Montana Dinosaur Trail

If you visit Makoshika State Park, you can see the K-T Boundary Line, which is the physical boundary in time between the two periods dating back 65.5 million years ago. The park is full of fossil remains. However, no digging, collecting, or removal of fossils and artifacts is allowed.

Makoshika State Park is open daily during the summer from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. through September 30. Admission is free for Montana residents who pay the $9 state parks fee with their annual vehicle registration. Admission for nonresidents is $8 with a vehicle and $4 for walk-in.
