Pokey LaFarge Makes Pioneering Music That Will Bring The Party
If you like musical surprises, and concerts that make you actually feel good - look no further than Pokey LaFarge this Friday night at The ELM. So many genres of music are packed together with a nostalgic, soulful bow on top.
So, WHO is this Pokey LaFarge, anyway? The music is sometimes 'ragtime' and sometimes 'Motown'. The songs are definitely coated in a thick layer of 'Nostalgic Americana' - they could be the soundtrack to a Ken Burns documentary.
His repertoire consists of a mix of Americana, early jazz, ragtime for string instruments, country blues, Western swing, Vaudeville, and Appalachian folk.
