East Glacier in northern Montana is still in a severe deficit with their snowpack. Not all of Montana is in trouble, but thankfully up to 8" of fresh snow should hit the East Glacier basin area by Friday morning. Currently, their snowpack is about 60% of average.

Montana is still in varying degrees of "trouble" when it comes to our snow pack levels. Southwest Montana is in pretty good shape with large recent storms, but parts of central and northern Montana are in need of A LOT more snow to reach their average. This is the current SNOTEL map as of April 2nd, 2024:

  • A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM WEDNESDAY EVENING TO 9 AM FRIDAY.
  • WHAT...Snow and some mixed precipitation expected.
  • Total snow accumulations between 1 and 8 inches up to pass level, with the highest amounts north of US highway 2.
  • Total ice accumulations around a light glaze.
  • WHERE...Eastern Glacier National Park and adjacent foothills and plains.

  • IMPACTS...Plan on slippery roads and reduced visibility, particularly during the overnight and morning hours.
