New DNA Evidence Could Help Solve Montana Cold Case
If I've said it before, I'll say it again: technology never ceases to amaze me. Sure, things like AI can be intimidating and even detrimental to our working class... but there are some positives that come with the tech advancements.
Especially when it comes to fighting crime.
Mini Basket Murder Case Goes Cold
On January 19, 1986, Carol and Richard Emineth were brutally murdered with a .22 caliber weapon during a suspected robbery at the Mini Basket Convenience Store in East Helena.
According to a February 1,1986 article from the Missoulian, a 16-year-old was picked out of a line-up and believed to be one of two suspects involved in the murder.

The teen was later acquitted of the charges in June of 1986 according to a report from KTVH
The case went cold and there haven't been any updates... until now.
Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Office Announces Major Cold Case Breakthrough
In a recent press conference from the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Office, it was revealed DNA evidence from the crime scene would be submitted for analysis. This is huge because (obviously) DNA testing wasn't available in 1986.
"But now under touch DNA and a few other things, this is an incredible opportunity to say we're sure that the suspect touched this," Sheriff Leo Dutton told KTVH Helena, "They didn't have any idea when they took it before that this would be something in the future."

It'll be interesting to see what comes of the DNA analysis, whether or not it'll lead to an arrest and if it'll be enough to close this case.
