This problem might not seem as relevant as in other more populous states, but we should be aware.

Montana seems like a state that has very few problems. Most people will complain about taxes, potholes, or wildlife slowing traffic. These things are mundane and everyday problems for most locals. Many Montanans don't know one issue has been rising for years, and we need to address it.

We discussed a few months ago where Montana ranks nationally for homeless people, and it's relatively low. We are in the bottom ten, and that's fine, but we found an alarming new statistic.

Stacker made a list of the States With The Biggest Increases in Homelessness, and we weren't expecting Montana to be here, but we are.

Montana ranks #8 with an increase of over seven percent in new homeless people. This statistic has risen due to several factors, but the main issue is affordable housing.

Stacker even points out how Bozeman didn't have a year-round homeless shelter until recently. The homeless population has grown exponentially locally over the past few years, and people want to know the solution.

Is it affordable housing? Is it building a new shelter? The city and the state need to find a solution to either slow this issue down or possibly solve it.

Affordable housing seems like the move, but that won't happen for years. If we need another homeless shelter, there is limited space and buildings available that could help.

Even though the homeless population isn't as high as in more populous states, Montana should fight the problem before it becomes a real issue.
