Why are the Harlem Globetrotters such a big part of American culture?

The Globetrotters have not only provided fun family entertainment for decades, they also played a huge part in cultural differences over the years. Long before desegregation and different bathrooms for different colors, the Globetrotters were building bridges between the white and black communities across the country through basketball, comedy, and entertainment.

Of course, you can't talk about the Harlem Globetrotters and not talk about their biggest rival, the Washington Generals. The Generals have been playing the Globetrotters for most of the team's existence, While the Globetrotters usually win those games, they have taken a loss or two over the years.

According to the record books, the Globetrotters have lost 345 games in the last 99 years. However, they've won over 27 thousand, and with a winning percentage of .987, they are owners of the biggest winning percentage in all of professional sports.
