There are great mysteries in this big world we live in. Things like the Bermuda Triangle, how the pyramids were built, or whether Bigfoot is really out there. Topics like those can spiral quickly and earn you a reputation for wearing a tin foil hat. Montana has a few mysteries of its own, and while they may not be on a global scale, they still manage to leave people scratching their heads. One of those puzzles has been quietly sitting in Great Falls for years, and no one seems to have a clear answer.

On the Missouri River, in Great Falls, you may have noticed something a little weird. Three bicycles are perched on top of a log sitting in the river. They are not thrown into the river like trash or left leaning against a guardrail. They are firmly secured by a metal bar, and it is definitely intentional. According to locals, the bikes have been there since at least the fall of 2020.
Since then, locals and visitors alike have tried to figure out how they got there and why. Online forums, including Reddit, have talked plenty about the bikes, but no solid answers have been unearthed. Instead, the mystery has only grown.
Some people believe the bicycles could be part of an unofficial art installation. Others think it may have started as an elaborate prank that simply never ended. At this point, your guess is as good as any.

Sounds like the bicycles have become an official part of Great Falls character.  Whether they are some type of modern art, a prank, or something else (Aliens did it), they have sparked years of curiosity. Until someone comes forward with the real story, the bikes on the log will remain one of Montana’s mysteries.
