I always found it interesting as I got older how many real life skills we were never taught in school. You learn the basics of a lot of subjects, which is important, but things like managing money often get overlooked. For something that affects everyday life, it is surprising how many people feel unprepared.

A new report from WalletHub highlights just how big that gap is across the country. Financial literacy has become even more important with rising costs and economic uncertainty. It helps people handle debt, build savings, and plan for the future.

Right now, many Americans are struggling in that area. Credit card debt has climbed to well over a trillion dollars, and a large portion of people expect that number to keep growing. That points to a bigger issue with how people are taught to handle money.

Some states are doing a better job than others. Minnesota ranks at the top, with financial education built into its school system. Students are required to take courses that focus on real world money skills. States like Colorado and Wisconsin also rank high, thanks to strong education programs to. Seems like they are moving in the right direction .

So where does Montana land? Near the bottom. The state ranks 45th overall, with even lower marks in both financial habits and education. It is a reminder that while Montana has a lot going for it, financial literacy is an area that could use more attention.
