This Hollywood Star Is Bringing His Band To Montana
There’s something special about live music in Montana. Maybe it’s the mountains, maybe it’s the wide-open sky, or maybe it’s because we have places like Hunters Hot Springs Amphitheater. And if you’re looking for a reason to head to Springdale this September, Billy Bob Thornton & The Boxmasters are giving us two weekends worth of it: September 5th–7th and again September 12th–13th. Yes, that Billy Bob. The ‘ummm huh’ Sling Blade legend, except now he’s rocking a mic instead of mumbling about french-fried taters.
Now, let’s talk about the venue first, because Hunters Hot Springs has one heck of a history. Montana folks love their natural hot tubs, and this one was discovered back in 1864 by Dr. A.J. Hunter while camping on his way to Virginia City. But truth be told, the Crow tribe had been enjoying the springs long before that. So much so that at one point nearly 1,000 teepees were said to be gathered there. Later came the Hotel Dakota in the 1930s, a bustling destination that eventually burned down. The springs were capped (tragic, I know), but the magic didn’t disappear. Today, the amphitheater sits at the base of the Crazy Mountains, and while we can’t soak in the springs anymore, we can soak up some killer live music.
Back to Billy Bob Thornton & The Boxmasters. They are a rock ‘n’ roll band with roots in British Invasion sounds and Southern rock, mixing retro vibes with modern grit. They’ve toured the world, opened for legends like ZZ Top and Kid Rock, and built a cult following of fans who love their high-energy shows.

So, no hot soak, but trust me, you won’t miss it. You’ll be too busy rocking out under the stars in true Montana fashion.
