Unexpected Visitor: Bear Caught On Video In Downtown Bozeman
If you've lived in Bozeman long enough, you know we share this town with more than just college kids, dogs, and coffee shops. On Tuesday, October 21st, downtown Bozeman had a surprise visitor! A cinnamon-colored black bear made an unexpected Main Street appearance. Yep, right in the heart of town.
Video from Bozeman Spirits Distillery's security cameras caught the furry traveler trotting past, looking every bit like someone who took a wrong turn on the way to the Bridgers. Another clip shows the bear darting across Main Street like, "Oh no, get me out of here!" And honestly, props to this bear for being polite enough to look both ways before crossing. I would say he had better street manners than most of us before our morning coffee. VIEW THE VIDEO HERE
No official word yet on what happened to the bear, but it seems likely it made its way out of town safely, probably with a wild story to tell its friends. We don't know why this specific bear came into town, but we do know that this is the time of year bears are trying to load up on calories. Fall is the season when bears will try to eat up to 20,000 calories a day. To put that into perspective, that is roughly 200 hamburgers a day.
While bears mostly look for natural food, they'll happily raid garbage cans, bird feeders, and pet food left outside. Bozeman residents can help by securing trash and removing temptations. The city even offers bear-resistant bins to make it easier.

So as fall rolls on and wildlife activity ramps up, remember keep your trash locked up, stay alert on the trails, and maybe give Main Street a quick glance before you cross. You never know who's visiting next.
