I don't know if Bozeman weather is having mood swings or is just indecisive. For the last three years, right at the end of the MSU Spring Semester it seems to snow one last time. Here at the XL Studio we couldn't believe it was snowing this morning so we snapped a photo out in our parking lot. Then two hours later we snapped another showing all the snow gone and gorgeous blue skies.
The heavy wet snow, while great for skiing, has created a high avalanche danger, and the potential for flooding.
According to the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center, the avalanche problem is simple: lots of new snow and wind-loading is adding stress to a weak snowpack. Triggering an avalanche is likely today and the avalanche danger is rated HIGH on wind-
The Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect from 10 am this morning to 5 am MST Thursday.
The National Weather Service in Great Falls has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for a flash freeze... which is in effect until 11 PM MST this evening. A Winter Storm Warning for elevations above 6000 feet remains in effect until 5 am MST Thursday.

Colleen and I talked with my brother Mike on XL Country Tuesday morning. He called from Tulsa during the BEAST of a storm there. Almost TWO feet of snow fell around Tulsa. And for the first time in history, the state of Missouri shut down Interstate 70 between St. Louis and Kansas City due to a winter storm. The newspaper in Tulsa, Okla., canceled its print edition for the first time in more than a century. And in Chicago, public schools called a snow day for the first time in 12 years.
If you have ever seen the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" you may be interested in the weather forecast for the next week. While it doesn't carry the drama that Hollywood was able to create, it does carry the snow. Experts are expecting record amounts of snow and ice.
