Montana's growing population has resulted in an increase in crime across the state. Local law enforcement agencies have been busier than ever keeping up with the increase in crime. Over Labor Day Weekend, an unusual crime took place in Bozeman, and the Bozeman Police Department is looking for answers.

Montana Law Enforcement Investigating Unusual Theft in Bozeman

On Tuesday, the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office released details about several street signs and stop signs that were stolen around Bozeman over the holiday weekend. The majority of the signs were stolen along county roads including Stucky Road, Gooch Hill Road, and Chapman Road.

GCSO says that the stolen signs are not only a burden for taxpayers, but the crime also creates serious safety risks for Bozeman residents. Removing stop signs can lead to dangerous situations for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians alike. In addition to that, stealing something that doesn't belong to you is wrong. It's disappointing to see this kind of stuff happening around Bozeman.

Hopefully, the person who stole the signs will turn themselves in. It could have been a student at MSU looking for cool decorations for their dorm room, but who knows?

If you have any information about the missing street signs and stop signs in Bozeman, the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office would like to speak with you. Please contact the GCSO via the non-emergency line at 406-582-2100. The person responsible needs to be brought to justice. We all need to do our part to keep the Bozeman community safe.
