The Ratio Mountain wildfire began on Sunday, August 18th, 2024 and is located about 15 miles northwest of Whitehall, Montana.

THE GOOD NEWS: Fire crews have been able to get some containment done especially on the east side of the fire - ironically with help from previous fires in the area.

"The entire area, including the previous fire footprints and the area immediately surrounding the Ratio Mountain fire, contains a large concentration of standing dead trees (“snags”) that pose challenges to ensuring firefighter safety and in responding to potential medical emergencies, jeopardizing the well-being of firefighters and other responders."

The wildfire season in Montana can vary greatly from year to year, but typically 'runs' from May to October. (At least, those months are the core of wildfire season in Montana.)

Ratio Mountain Fire: "The fire area experienced much cooler temperatures over the weekend, with overnight temperatures in the 40s. Fire behavior was limited to isolated torching, creeping, and backing."
