MDT Adds New Road Cameras on the Map For More Travel Information
The Montana Department of Transportation has added more camera locations to the MDT road camera map. Road conditions and current on-site weather information is incredibly helpful to Montana travelers.
There are dozens of MDT camera sites across Montana's Road Weather Information System (RWIS). There is a full state map view of camera sites, or an alphabetical location list with thumbnail pictures.
There are two new road view cameras, and they were desperately needed along one of the busiest stretch of I-90 in Montana. Being able to now check road conditions will help Montanans make better travel decisions.
According to the Montana Highway Patrol, there were 203 fatalities on Montana roads in 2024. We're all responsible in helping keep Montana roads safe, but there is an MDT Traffic and Safety Bureau.
- New MDT camera: Between Bozeman and Belgrade on I-90
- New MDT camera: Three Forks, MT on I-90
These two new camera locations were very good choices, as they were much needed. Folks were quick to suggest other locations in Montana that could use one, too. The Montana Department of Transportations responded:
Camera placement depends a lot on power/network availability. We appreciate all location suggestions and do take your suggestions into consideration when determining camera sites in the future!
When there is an accident on Montana roadways, checking the cameras in the area can be helpful in determining travel routes too, if time is an issue for you.
