Federal Property For Sale in Montana: Old FAA Tower Site

What government buildings are for sale? What federally owned properties are for sale? Are there any government properties for sale in Montana? Yes. But it's not a huge, old, well known  federal building.

With all the talk of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) terminating leases and selling properties that are owned by the federal government, it has been difficult to find an accurate list of what's for sale.

Lists have been made, published online, then deleted within hours. It's nothing new for the government to put certain properties up for sale when they're no longer needed. But it seems that a huge wave of buildings and real estate might be cut loose.

What kind of stuff do you find when searching for federal real estate for sale? Lots of cool stuff, to be honest. At the time of this writing, I found listings for:

• A huge 60,000 square foot Former Job Corps Data Center in Austin, TX
• The historic 1928 U.S. Courthouse in Des Moines, IA
• The Former Hawkinsville Air Force Space Surveillance Station (AFSSS) in Hawkinsville, GA (how cool is THAT???)

Because the current 'lists' keep disappearing or keep getting modified, I wanted to know what federal real estate was actually for sale in Montana. I did find one very interesting piece of property for sale in Montana, that was currently taking bids - but that's it.

IMPORTANT NOTE: What federal buildings and real estate are available is going to change from day to day. Bidding periods come to an end, and we've seen property added then quickly deleted from availability. Let's just say, the situation is fluid.

Currently, an FAA NDB site near Helena, Montana is for sale. An NDB is a non-directional beacon. "A non-directional beacon (NDB) is a radio transmitter that helps pilots navigate by emitting signals in all directions. NDBs are used in aviation and marine navigation."

• This Property is 9.60 acres +/- of vacant land located on Wylie Drive, East Helena, MT.
• Approximate coordinates 46.6066870, -1119371400.
• The subject neighborhood is in the section of Lewis and Clark County between Helena and East Helena.
• The neighborhood is bounded by York Road to the north, Lake Helena Drive to the east, US Highway 12/287 to the south, and Interstate 15 to the west.
• The equipment shelter building and antenna tower have been removed and the site has been restored.

This nearly 10 acre piece of federal real estate for sale has been cleared of any of the buildings or towers that used to be there. It also appears to be located on Lake Helena, but it's hard to tell.
