Updated Report Reveals MT’s New Rudest Town, But Is It Really?
BUTTE, MT - Here in Montana, we pride ourselves on small-town charm, waving at strangers, and letting someone cut in line at the grocery store if they only have a gallon of milk.

It’s kind of our thing.
So when we come across articles or social media threads naming the rudest towns in Big Sky Country, we can’t help but raise an eyebrow and ask: Really?
We’ve all had that one bad experience—maybe a gruff cashier, a rude driver, or a frosty reception at the local diner—but (I hope) most Montanans know those moments are the exception, not the rule.
It’s hard to believe that any of our communities, from the bustling hubs to the wide spots in the road, are truly deserving of a "rude" label.
Yet somehow, lists keep popping up online. Sometimes it’s based on Yelp reviews, other times on random Reddit comments or vague vibes from travel bloggers passing through on their way to Yellowstone.
Now, let’s be clear: we don’t think any of the places mentioned are actually rude.
In fact, most of them are full of hard-working folks, close-knit neighborhoods, and the kind of old-school hospitality that would surprise even the most skeptical out-of-stater. But hey, we’ll let you decide.
So we pulled together some of the towns that have earned a less-than-stellar reputation online—not because we agree, but because it’s worth asking: What makes a town seem rude? Is it the people? The traffic? The lack of coffee shops?
You tell us. Here’s the list—draw your own conclusions.
