The pursuit of a man yesterday came to a quiet end later in the afternoon but investigators are still attempting to determine if the man was connected to a possible arson case.

BOZEMAN — Authorities in Gallatin County have surrounded a home near Three Forks after a man suspected of criminal mischief and violating a protection order led police on a chase after an attempted traffic stop.

Three Forks Police Chief Troy Burdick said officers tried to stop "a person of interest" on Monday afternoon in connection with an earlier crime, but he did not elaborate. The man fled police and holed himself up in a home between Three Forks and Logan.

Burdick said authorities are investigating a residential fire in Three Forks that was reported just before 1 p.m. Monday, but he would not say if the man involved in the standoff is connected to the blaze.

A helicopter, a special negotiations unit and a K9 unit from Bozeman were at the scene later Monday, as were Gallatin County Sheriff's deputies and Bozeman police.
