It was a smoky weekend around the Bozeman area, due in part to a couple of new fires that are burning south of Ennis and Virginia City. According to the KBZK-TV the Monument Fire which is the largest of two fires in the Gravelly Mountains has consumed over 2000 acres. It was started on August 6th by lighting. Some evacuations have been ordered in the area.

The Bacon Rind Fire between Big Sky and West Yellowstone is now around 1000 acres burned. The fire has been burning for three weeks and was stared by lightning.

In Glacier National Park some evacuations have been ordered for the How Ridge Fire, and a part of the Going-to-the-Sun Road is closed as a precaution. The fire is near Lake McDonald but the Lodge was still open as of yesterday. (Lodge is now being evacuated!)

More than 30,000 firefighters and support personnel continue to work on 110 large fires that have burned 1.7 million acres in 14 states. Our air quality is a combination of many of these fire.
