Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have released their brand-new single, "Speak to a Girl." The song is the first off of a joint album that the couple will release via Sony Music Entertainment this year.

Hill's is the first voice listeners hear on "Speak to a Girl," and she's letting everyone know Aretha Franklin was right: It's all about R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

"She don’t really care how you’re spending your money / It’s all how you treat her," Hill sings, and with a good amount of soul and heart. "She just wants a friend to be there when she opens her eyes in the morning / She wants you to say what you mean and mean everything that you’re saying."

In the second verse, McGraw takes the lead: "She don’t give a damn ‘bout your pride or the lies that you’re hiding behind / She just wants to feel that you're real, that she’s near to the man that’s inside / She don’t need to hear she’s a queen on a throne, that she’s more than amazing ..."

"'Cause that’s how you talk to a woman / That’s how you speak to a girl / That’s how you get with a lady who’s worth more than anything in your whole world," goes the chorus of "Speak to a Girl." "You better respect your mama / Respect the hell out of her / 'Cause that’s how you talk to a woman, and that’s how you speak to a girl.

"Speak to a Girl" was written by Shy Carter, Dave Gibson and Joe Spargur; it was co-produced by Byron Gallimore, McGraw and Hill. Hill says that, from first listen, she connected to the song "lyrically, melodically, everything."

"It’s important that young women hear that message from the men in their lives and from the other women in their lives," McGraw adds (quote via B104). "It’s important that the young men hear this message so they know how to speak to a girl.”

McGraw and Hill will be performing "Speak to a Girl" at the 2017 ACM Awards on April 2.

McGraw and Hill each signed separate deals with Sony in mid-February. Previously, McGraw was with Big Machine Label Group; he signed with the label in 2012, after leaving Curb Records, and last released an album, Damn Country Music, in 2015. Hill, meanwhile, was previously signed to Warner Bros. Nashville, her label home for more than 20 years; her last album for that label, Deep Tracks, dropped in November.

McGraw and Hill celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in October of 2016; during the same week, the pair received stars on the Music City Walk of Fame and hosted a sold-out “surprise” concert at the Ryman Auditorium to announce their 2017 co-headlining Soul2Soul Tour, which will begin in April. The couple recently recorded a new duet, “Keep Your Eyes on Me,” for the The Shack movie soundtrack, and in early January, it was announced that they will be the subjects of a Country Music Hall of Fame exhibit beginning in November.
