Kids definitely know a good song when they hear one, and apparently they know a good philanthropist when they spot one, too. For her many charitable endeavors and contributions, Taylor Swift will be the recipient of this year’s the Big Help Award at the 2012 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. Presenting the prestigious honor to the country starlet will be a widely acclaimed past winner, a philanthropist of a different vocation: First Lady Michelle Obama.

The First Lady was the recipient of 2010′s Big Help Award for her Let’s Move! campaign, which encouraged healthier, more active lifestyles among children. And while she is a past recipient, this will be Mrs. Obama’s first time to actually grace the stage of the Kids’ Choice Awards, which will be hosted this year by Will Smith.

Swift is receiving this honor in response to her work with multiple charities and causes throughout the past year. Raising money for victims of the tornadoes that ripped through the south last summer, Swift creatively took action, opening up the May dress rehearsal for her Speak Now Tour (Speak Now … Help Now) as a fundraiser that ended up garnering more than $750,000 for the cause.

The ‘Ours’ singer has also become a champion for several organizations that deal specifically with children or early childhood education. Her charitable arm has reached into the realms of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, St. Jude Medical Center, the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, the Salvation Army, Nick’s Kids, the TJ Martell Foundation and the Victory Junction Gang Camp. Plus, Swift had made several generous book donations to libraries and schools across the country.

Executive Vice President and Public Affairs Chief of Staff for the Nickelodeon Group Marva Smalls said in a public statement that Swift was an obvious candidate for the award. “Taylor’s dedication to helping others has encouraged her fan base to do the same, and this is the very core of what The Big Help is, inspiring others through action,” she explained. “We are honored that First Lady Michelle Obama, a past recipient of The Big Help Award will be presenting this formidable and inspiring artist with this much deserved honor.”

Catch Taylor Swift on the live telecast of the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Saturday, March 31 at 8 PM ET.
