January 6, 2011 I think (fingers crossed) that Matthew is almost out of diapers! HOORAY!!! He has been my most difficult child to potty train. "They" say that boys are harder to train, and "they" also say that intelligent children are more difficult to potty train. If that's the case, then Matthew must be a genius!
So this year we get an extra day (or 3!) to file our income taxes! YAY! Why? Because Friday the 15th is Emancipation Day, a little-known Washington, D.C., holiday that celebrates the freeing of slaves in the district.
I've never been one to wait until the last day, but have several friends who do that...do you? This year should be pretty interesting for us tax wise. Two jobs, two states, moving and all that stuff. If you do wait until the last minute, make sure you have everything postmarked by midnight on Monday April 18th this year.
When I was in 4th grade, I thought 12th graders were adults (full of worldly knowledge and confidence). When I had cancer, I thought doctors had all the answers (having no question about just what to do). When I saw Barbara Streisand in concert, I thought she must love being on stage in front of thousands of people (loving the limelight and attention).
Today we will be interviewing candidates for an opening in our organization. It is always a love/hate process for me. More love than hate. I love meeting new people, learning about them, trying to find out what makes them tick. I guess the "hate" part is just the risk involved. There's a lot at stake. "Bozeman media group desperately seeking perfect person to join our team," is no easy spot to fill.
So did you make any resolutions? Was one about losing weight? All I did was eat candy and baked goods for the past two weeks. I think I may have over-done it on the sweets! It seems that the most popular resolution for the New Year is to lose weight, at least according to MyGoals.com. If you really want to lose weight, don't diet.
When it comes to coffee I am pretty picky. I like it hot. Not lukewarm, not room temperature, but hot (although iced is wonderful in the summer). I like it strong. Not too strong of course, and certainly not weak. Coffee shops do a nice job (at $4 a cup). Automatic coffee makers do not (at any price).

Skype is STILL free to use. So long as you call computer to computer. We use skype to talk with our daughter Ashley who is still in California and Lori's Mom in Reno. It's so cool with webcams! We opened our Christmas gifts together while online chatting! As close to being there as possible!
There is a push in certain circles to SIMPLIFY. There are simplify t-shirts, simplify bumper stickers, and simplify billboards. For some reason simplifying doesn't seem to be enough for those who seem to enjoy it. They need me to simplify too. I think they mean to encourage us to simplify our lives. To get back to the basics. To focus on what's important. I for one think that simplifying can be a lot of work.

We're busy people, living in a busy world. Jobs, families, hobbies, clubs, civic organizations, second jobs, third jobs, kids' activities, committees. It never seems to end. So much to do. So little time. Around my office, you could apply the same template to most people's daily work to-do lists.
I've never been one that makes New Years Resolutions. I'd rather just take life a day at a time and take what it dishes out, wash those dishes and put them away in the cabinet. I do have goals in life though. So far, knock on wood, I've reached all goals I set in front of myself. I'm always setting higher goals along the journey too! One day at a time.
