The boy who Taylor Swift invited to the ACM Awards responded via video today. He’s fighting cancer and had invited Swift to prom last week. George Strait is also sick, but thankfully things don’t seem to be nearly as dire — although he did have to do something almost unheard of to his fans.
Congratulations are in order for the legendary George Strait, who is now a proud (and might we add very cool) grandpa! Strait’s songwriting son Bubba and his wife Tamara welcomed their first child into the world last Thursday, Feb. 2, as announced by the glowing Gramps from onstage in Phoenix, Ariz. last week. Local country radio station KMLE broke the news following Strait’s show Friday night.

George Strait‘s 2012 tour will kick off on January 27 in Lafayette, La. and include at least 11 shows across the southern half of the country. The ‘Here For a Good Time’ hitmaker previously announced that Martina McBride would open all shows on the tour. Strait’s new album, ‘Here for a Good Time,’ debuted on top of the Billboard country charts this week, surging past Jason Aldean and Jake Owen with more than 91,000 copies sold.
It's no secret I am a George Strait fan. LOVE his stuff. All of it. I've had the opportunity to see him all the way back in the beginning, in 1981 and have seen him at least a dozen times since. Sure all he does is stand there and sing...but by-george, that's all he needs to do!
With 2011 more than half over — and the summer concert season winding down — Billboard has tallied up the totals for the year’s biggest tours so far, and a number of country artists are going strong.
U2 leads the list, with a nearly $175 million gross, with the top five rounded out by Roger Waters ($114 million), Bon Jovi ($107 million), Lady Gaga ($72 million), and Usher ($70 million). And the year’s biggest country tours? Kenny Chesney (No. 9, $25 million) and the George Strait/Reba pairing (number 15, $17.5 million).
George Strait and some of his buddies have purchased a 'jewel' of a golf resort. George loves the game of golf, and the place is called the Tapatio Springs Golf Resort and Conference Center. It sits about 25 miles northwest of San Antonio, Texas.
