Scrapbook Scribbles 11 – The Power of Three
The rule of thirds is a basic design principal. Photographers use this rule to divide a rectangular space into thirds both horizontally and vertically. This creates nine smaller rectangles and four points where the lines intersect. The elements of your design that are most important to your layout, should be placed at these intersections for the most appealing balance. Choose three of the four points. This process will create the visual triangle.
Also, another way of using the power of three is to use the same design element in three places on your design. Either, the same type of embellishment, color, or shape.
Take a look at advertisements or design layouts, including the way interior designers arrange furniture or art on the walls. There will generally be an element of “three”. Odd numbers are also supposed to be very “Feng Shui” ( if you believe in the Eastern design).
Stand back and check out your designs to see if it looks balanced. Odd to think of “3” as being “balanced”, isn’t it?
Enjoy looking at your designs in a whole different way when you apply the Power of Three.
