This is the second incident this summer in which a dog was shot by a police officer in Bozeman. The incident occurred when police approached a man illegally camping near Peet's Hill. This time, the Associated Press is reporting that police were responding to a party complaint at a mobile home when a pit bull would not respond to verbal commands which led to the dog being shot.

As the police approached the mobile home, the dog charged an officer and the officer had no choice but to shoot the dog after verbal commands failed to stop the dog.

The owner of the dog, Adam Lavern Brannon, was arrested for disorderly conduct after officers said he directed racial slurs and obscenities towards neighbors he believed called the police about the party.

The incident will be reviewed by the police department.

Do you think another form of defense besides a firearm could or should be used against aggressive dogs?
