I90, road construction, 7th,

If you thought traffic was bad at times in Bozeman, well, it's about to get worse!  The I-90 and 7th Avenue bridge and interchange will be getting expanded and rebuilt.  I think this is a sign that Summer is getting close!

Public Meeting Tuesday March 12th at 5:30 Pm At the GranTree conference center

Construction to replace the dual bridges at the North 7th interchange in Bozeman will begin the week of March 11, 2013. This project will address structural vulnerabilities during earthquakes and improve traffic capacity and function.  The existing bridges will be replaced with one new structure that will include four driving lanes, two left hand turn lanes onto the I90 westbound on-ramp, 5 foot shoulders that can accommodate bicycle traffic, and 5 foot sidewalks that are ADA accessible. Additionally, the westbound on-ramp will be widened to accommodate two lanes. Other improvements will include new luminaires, traffic signing and signals.

The interchange bridge construction will be completed in two phases. Phase 1 will consist of removing the northbound structure (east bridge) crossing I-90 and accommodating two lanes of North 7th Avenue traffic on the existing southbound structure while half of the new bridge is being built.

Phase 2 will consist of shifting traffic to the new half of the structure which will accommodate three lanes of North 7th Avenue traffic while the existing southbound structure (west bridge) is removed and replaced with the other half of the new structure. To accommodate potential traffic delays on North 7th Avenue, a temporary traffic signal and lane modifications will be established at the Oak Street intersection.

Impact to I-90 traffic will consist of crossovers and lane reductions to accommodate construction activities when needed. Information regarding traffic advisories will be posted on the MDT website, in the local newspaper, and on local radio stations.

Please obey the posted speed limit signs in this area so that you, other drivers, pedestrians, and more importantly, the construction workers, will be safe during this time. PLEASE NO CELL PHONE USE IN THIS AREA!

A pre-construction meeting is scheduled at 5:30 pm on March 12, 2013 at the Best Western GranTree Hotel Conference Center. The public is encouraged to attend.
