Most Snake Infested River In America Is Located In Montana

For many of us, including myself, the idea of snakes is not pleasant. I grew up in the south where we had a variety of snakes that were nasty and plentiful. If you spent any time outdoors during the summer, you had to be mindful of your surroundings at all times, especially in the woods and near or in water.

Here in Montana, we're lucky as we only have one venomous snake, the Prairie Rattlesnake, but that doesn't mean we're snake-free, in fact, Montana is home to the most snake-infested river in the country.

Montanans love spending time on the water. Whether it's floating down a river, swimming, or fishing, countless hours are spent each year across the state on and near our waterways.

Before you get too freaked out, please be aware that even though it's the most snake-infested river in the country, it's also the longest.

Which Montana River is the most snake-infested in America?

That would be the Mighty Mo. The Missouri River, which starts in Montana and flows through several other states before it joins with the Mississippi in St. Louis is the longest in the United States and can be found in the following states:

• Montana
• North Dakota
• South Dakota
• Nebraska
• Iowa
• Kansas
• Missouri

As mentioned above, we don't have too much to worry about here when it comes to venomous snakes, however, the folks down south certainly do. It looks like the only real threat regarding venomous snakes is the water moccasin also known as the cotton-mouth. Luckily for us, we shouldn't come across one of those here in Big Sky Country.

So, while you might see a snake or two in the Missouri River, and it might make the hair on your neck stand up, it's nothing to be alarmed by.
