To help kick off hunting season, youth get the first 'shot' at hunting on Thursday and Friday, October 18th and 19th.  Only in Montana do kids get out of school for two days for a chance to go hunting!  A two-day convention for Montana teachers coincides with these days allowing the students a chance to enjoy the youth hunt and not miss school.

The two-day hunt is limited to the following:

  • 12 to 15 year olds who have completed hunter education and have a non-hunting adult accompanying them over 18 years old.
  • Certified and legally licenses hunters 10 to 15 years old accompanied by a non-hunting adult over 21 years old.
  • Deer only. Elk hunting is prohibited. All regulations apply
