Montana State distance runner Cristian Soratos traveled to the Washington Husky Invitational this past weekend amid doubt and controversy over a heavily converted 3:56.87 mile time (taken down from 4.05.18 for altitude and flat track adjustments) that qualified him as the top miler in the NCAA. He would be running the mile on a track unadjusted for time, against stiff competition from the likes of Oregon, Washington, and Penn State.

The Bobcat runner faced skepticism from the NCAA Track and Field world for the huge conversion to his mile time. Many suspected that Soratos could not run this time outright, without the crutch of the flat track and altitude adjustments to his mile. Flotrack, a premiere Track and Field site that covers professional, collegiate, and amateur events, posted a taunting picture of Soratos on their facebook page the week leading up to the Husky Invitational. The caption read:
“Dear Altitude/Flat Track Adjustments,
Thank you for ranking me 1st in the mile [in the NCAA], 6th in the 800 and 13th in the DMR.
Sincerely,

Watch the video of his race below to see how Soratos responded to all the doubters this past weekend.
Soratos ran a 3:55.27 unadjusted time, proving his place at the pinnacle of the NCAA mile list was warranted. Flotrack has since showered their facebook page with Soratos praise. Montana State represent!
