You don't have to be a baker to have this popular item in your cupboard. Commonly used not only during holidays, but also a popular item in smoothies, homemade lattes, and diet enhancers.

A recall on cinnamon has been issued, and the manufacturer has said it was distributed throughout the Midwest and beyond.

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) is warning people to throw away a certain type of cinnamon. Apparently this specific brand is sold at discount stores and could contain levels of lead that may be unsafe.

From the DPHHS:

...exposure to lead in the diet could contribute to adverse health effects, particularly for the portion of the population that may already have exposure to lead from other sources. Most people have no obvious immediate symptoms of lead exposure. -DPHHS

The CDC uses a marker of 3.5 micrograms per deciliter to identify children with blood lead levels higher than most. If you think there is a chance you or your children could be exposed, head to your doctor asap.
