Montana is a beautiful state. We have stunning mountains, gorgeous lakes, and some of the most amazing sunsets you will ever see. However, one of the things that Montana might lack is diversity.

The history of Montana is an interesting one, much like several other western states, as folks migrated across the country, several folks decided to call Montana home.

You don't have to look very far to find folks who are 4th and 5th-generation Montanans and when you do come across one, it won't take long to find out those folks are very proud of their Montana heritage, as they should be.

Montana is one of the least populated states in the nation, so it makes sense that we might not have the most diverse population, however, according to new data, one Montana city is in the running for the "whitest" city in America.

Coming in 3rd place is Boise which is the biggest city in Idaho. Boise has seen a massive increase in population over the last few years and has a population of over 230 thousand, and out of that number, 81.2 percent of the population is white.

In 2nd place is Billings. Billings is the biggest city in Montana with a population of almost 120 thousand people and a percentage of 83.5 percent white. However, that is a decrease from a few years ago when the city had a percentage of 87.5 of white folks.

Which American city is the "whitest" in the United States?

Located in Missouri, the whitest city in the country is Springfield. Located in the southwestern part of the state, Springfield is the 3rd biggest city in the Show Me State with a population of almost 170 thousand people, and out of that number, 84.1 percent is white.

Much like Billings, all of the cities in the Top 5 have seen a bit more diversity in their populations in the last few years as more people of color are moving to those areas. I believe diversity is something we should celebrate.  There is so much to learn from different cultures whether it is history, music, or food, diversity is a good thing.
