Mommy Memos: I’m On The Phone!

What is it about the telephone and kids?  My kids will be playing quietly and when I get on the phone, all hell breaks loose.  "GIVE ME MY TOY!"  "NO, I HAD IT FIRST."  smack!  "MOM, SHE HIT ME!"

I know what it is like to talk to me on the phone sometimes.  Not fun.  Luckily, it is a great way to get off the phone with someone I don't want to talk to.  However, it seems those are the times they will continue to play quietly.   Why is it whenever you want your kids to behave, they don't?  Like when you are at a nice restaurant, or when you're on the phone, of even when you're in front of someone you don't like and want to show them that your kids are better than theirs?  Usually, as long as my kids aren't hungry or tired they are pretty good kids.  I always love it when we are out and I see some kid acting like a jerk.  Makes me realize that we all have the same problems.  Once, I walked away from my kids and said, "who do THOSE kids belong to?"  I recommend it.  I always tell my kids they don't have to be perfect, but they do have to be respectful and kind...so far, so good.  I guess I can handle the occasional public embarrassment...my mom says I used to do the same thing.  I don't believe her.
