At approximately 4:13 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, the Bozeman Police Department was notified of an in progress sex crime in the children's room at the Bozeman Public Library.

Dispatch notified officers that there was a male, later identified as Samuel Rodriguez, exposing himself to children in the children's area. Officers then received another notification that Rodriguez had left the library and was northbound on Wallace.

An employee at the Bozeman Public Library followed Rodriguez after he left the library. That employee alerted a Montana Ale Works employee, who then called 911. Both employees followed Rodriguez until officers arrived on the scene.

When officers arrived, they spotted the suspect heading westbound on Mendenhall with the two employees following behind him. Officers approached Rodriguez, and performed a pat search of the suspect for weapons. During the search, officers found a pocket knife in his right front pocket, and noticed that his belt buckle was undone, his pant zipper was half unzipped, and his pants' button was undone.

Rodriguez was arrested and read his Miranda Rights. Rodriguez stated that he was at the library looking for children's books for his children when his rash, located between his stomach and genitals began to itch.

Dispatch ran Rodriguez through NCIC and received information that Rodriguez had a warrant out for his arrest through the U.S. Marshall's Service for indecent exposure to a child. He failed to register as a sex offender, and his criminal history showed that he had been convicted of indecent exposure to a child once before.

The suspect is being held on no bond at the Gallatin County Detention Center.
