Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will honor the service of its Region 3 Hunter and Bowhunter Education volunteer instructors at workshops held in Butte  and Bozeman this weekend.

These volunteers help shape the future of hunting in Montana by providing would-be hunters with training in safety, ethics, conservation, and the handling of firearms and archery equipment.

In Region 3 alone, these volunteers instruct about 1,000 students each year. It’s a big responsibility, and often requires a large time commitment.

Instructors with 25 years or more of service include: Mel Keininger of Butte (25), Doug Denson of Twin Bridges (30), Vinny Vacca of Bozeman (30), and John Steele of Manhattan (35).

For information on becoming a Hunter or Bowhunter Education instructor, call Andrea Jones in the FWP Region 3 Information and Education Office at (406) 994-6931.
